Dr. Santoscoy is a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon of high regard on both sides of the border. As a highly sought specialist working extensive hours and on call, Dr. Santoscoy’s family time is important and he felt he needed a place for the family to enjoy their time together. Both he and Angela wanted a family gathering place whether spending time with their three sons or with the entire extended large family. Sons Zach, Beto and Eli each also have a large group of friends and the home needed to allow them to have a comfortable place to entertain their friends and still provide for the adults to get together without intruding on each others space.

Located on a hillside, the rear of the home faces the Franklin Mountains with a scenic view. In the design, most of the family area was placed on the east side of the house, which faces the mountains. Central to all areas was a large covered patio with dining for a dozen, fireplace and an outdoor barbecue kitchen. Moving out from the patio is the pool area and then a rising grass lawn where the boys and their friends can enjoy sports. On the upper deck there is a large fitness center with upper deck patio. Dr. Santoscoy and Angela enjoy this area off the master bedroom for a morning work out. Later in the day, the boys and their friends take over the fitness center and it resembles the training center for the local high school football team. Another area of collective use is the two-story library. The boys have claimed stake to this area and it is their media center. Occasionally, the adults get to use it for its original intent – a quiet hideaway for reading and talking.

In the entry rotunda, great room and formal dining room, Angela and Lynda created an elegant design theme while keeping all areas usable and comfortable. The thirty-foot high ceiling created a European cathedral feeling. The centerpiece is the spiraling center staircase with an ornamental iron balustrade rising from the entry travertine floor to the upper level. The top of the stairs finished just under the beautiful iron chandelier. The adjacent great room is highlighted with a stunning Cantera stone fireplace rising from floor to ceiling and then floor-to-ceiling glass windows capturing the peaks of the Franklin Mountains. A hallway off of the central entry leads towards a sitting room, which opens to the patio, breakfast area and kitchen. At the beginning of the hallway you pass a special water feature with water cascading down a burnt copper shield into a bed of pebbles. A little farther down on the left side of the hallway is an iron sculpture of a large Ocotillo set into a lighted nicho. The length of the hallway is well lighted by custom metal wall sconces. Arrival at the kitchen is a special destination with a paradise of cooking equipment surrounding a large granite-topped central island. The kitchen ceiling is barreled brick and continues the European cathedral feeling. Cooking is easy and this kitchen would please the soul of any chef.

Upstairs each of the boys got to personalize the motif of their rooms. Working with Lynda Power, one chose a tropical look, another African-Egyptian theme and the third son a sports gallery. In between their rooms is a sitting area to study or relax. Bobby and Angela’s master suite with a spectacular panorama of the Franklin Mountains is on the opposite side from the boy’s wing. The master bedroom is adjacent to the fitness center and upper deck patio, which extends out from the master suite and fitness center.

Angela and Lynda achieved success in designing and creating a beautiful home for the Santoscoy’s that maximizes quality time from small family daily life functions to large family and friend gatherings.
